A detailed map showcasing both current and historical whisky distilleries across Scotland.
Maps have always held a special place in my creative interests. From a young age, I was captivated by the world atlas my parents owned; a well-worn volume from the early 1970s. I was drawn to its weight, intricate details, vast scope, and even the distinctive smell of its aged paper. My passion extended to creating my own maps, whether of imagined dungeons or fantastical worlds. This lifelong fascination with cartography inspired me to develop a project that would celebrate this art form while offering value and enjoyment to others.
Design
The foundation of this map is a meticulously reconstructed antique depiction of Scotland from 1751, created by seamlessly combining dozens of high-resolution scans. Whisky distilleries are plotted and categorized by region; Campbeltown, Highland, Islands, Islay, Lowland, and Speyside, providing a clear and informative visual reference that honors both the heritage and geography of Scotland’s whisky tradition.
